Practice (TBA)

We will rehearse in McAllen at least twice before the shooting date. We will do this on weekends. We will provide

• Gas, food, hotel and $50 per practice weekend. If you live greater than 5 to 6 hours away from McAllen, we may provide airfare.

Shooting Dates

We will assemble in McAllen on April 7, 2006 (Friday). We will begin shooting Saturday (8 hours), Sunday and Monday (12 hours each day), Tuesday (8 hours), Wednesday (12 hours) and Thursday (re-tapes, etc). We will provide

• Gas, food, hotel and $100 per day as compensation (1099 form). If you live greater than 5 to 6 hours away from McAllen, we may provide airfare.
• Single Title Credit, Single Title Card (for each member of the band, Derrick, Carla, and Mr. P

Shooting FYI

We are shooting with two DV cameras, professional sound and lights. We have a great soundtrack for this film. We have THE GREAT SCRIPT.

Synopsis

A Rio Grande Valley based all female band (R/B, Hip/hop, Salsa), The Testosterone Girls, is faced with many unforeseen obstacles including being denied money owed to them by their boss Mr. P. He is a successful businessman who is arrogant and sleazy. The leader of the band, Kelly, finds herself trying to solve her own crisis and the problems of the other band members. Seemingly unable to cope with all the mounting problems, Kelly finds comfort, guidance and a new friend in the manager of the nightclub, Derrick. While helping Kelly find solutions to her problems, Derrick and Kelly find themselves attracted to each other. Just when all seems lost, they both find the courage to move forward, solve all the problems and find love in the process.

Character Bios

 Character Bio KELLY Cavasos (LEAD FEMALE)

Kelly was born in Houston or McAllen, Texas. She is 24 years old. She is smart, beautiful and she can make a club audience fall in love with her at will. She is very caring and loves all the members of her band like sisters. She knows who she is and has no problems with small talk about her. Her parents were both educated with college degrees. Her mom is from Mexico and her father is from Puerto Rico. She has 3 older brothers who all have college degrees as well. She also has a baby sister named Robin, who is a member of the Testosterone Girls. She was a normal kid who was very athletic while in school. She was also a member of the church choir where she found that she could sing. She also learned how to play the guitar very well while in middle school. As a member of her high school band, she was voted the most talented musician two years in a row. She attended the high school for musicians and artists. Kelly had a hand full of sexual encounters while in high school. They were all on her terms. She finally found a steady boyfriend in her senior year of high school. She felt that their love would last forever. Her brothers and parents always told her not to put all of her trust in another kid. She did not listen. On her graduation night, she caught her boyfriend making out with another girl. She was devastated and for a few years she kept all guys at arms distant. She essentially became a play girl. Upon graduating from high school, she formed an all girl band with her best friend, Monica, called the Testosterone Girls (may change to Latinas, Latino Girls, or some variation). They practiced four times a week and did every local show that they could do in or around McAllen or Houston. Finally, when Kelly was 20, she landed the group their first steady job at a small place, Club 21, playing twice a week. It was there that they learned how to play to the crowd. They rarely played to big crowds or a packed house. She had enrolled at the local junior college, because her parents reminded her often that many musicians are broke. She wanted to be a star like Janet Jackson, but she would settle for being a music teacher at the local high school. After spending a couple of years at Club 21, the band got there big break at an upscale nightclub called The Sky Bar. When the club opened, they played for only two weeks before the club had its first sell out. After the first sell out, the club has been sold out ever since. The job is very fulfilling for Kelly, because she feels like a star when she sings to the packed club and she gets to hang out and have fun with her best friend. About a year before the movie actually starts, she felt that her dreams of stardom may come true. A talent agent had come all the way from California to see her and her band. The funny thing about the situation was that the guy told Kelly doing a set break that he loved their sound and would like to discuss the possibility of the band signing the band with his company. However, during the next set, Mr. P sat at the guys table for a few minutes. Then the guys abruptly stood and left the club and never returned any of Kelly’s phone calls. With her dreams of stardom dashed, she focused all of her extra attention to school. Right after this event with the talent agent, Mr. P hired a new manager named Derrick. With only a semester to go in school, she started to feel like a different guy or a stable of guys in her life to feel her different needs was not the way she wanted to go. She wanted to settle down with one guy. She has always had a very supportive family and that has never changed. With school behind her now, she looks forward to trying to get that big break for her band. She currently has a problem. Her problem is the money the band is getting paid is not enough. She is in the mist of having the #1 band in Houston or McAllen, but she may lose members because of money problems.

 Character Bio DERRICK James (LEAD MALE)

Derrick was born in McAllen or Houston. He is very smart, street smart, and book smart with an MBA from Rice University. He is handsome, but not to handsome. He is easy to get along with and has no hang ups. He has a couple of friends, but he is mostly to himself. He was a player sometimes, but never liked the feeling of hurting anyone. He was a drum player all through school. He was voted the most likable person in the band. He was also a pretty good football player and received a few scholarships to play in college. He pasted those up to take an academic scholarship to Rice University. Both of his parents are dead. They were killed in a suspicious car accident when he was in junior high school. His parents were both from Houston or McAllen. They were hard workers and his dad had great business awareness. His dad started, managed and was part owned of the number one club in the city, Club 10,000, for 12 years before his death. One of Derrick’s dad’s business partners was Mr. P. Derrick, an only child, sold his share of the business for $300,000.00 under the direction for his father’s lawyer. The money was placed in a trust and still remains there. Derrick lived with his Aunt until he graduated from college. Then he moved back into his parent’s old home. For a few of years after graduate school, he worked in corporate America and earned a six figure income. He quit his job to follow in his father footsteps of owning a nightclub. He took the job at The Sky Club because he wanted to learn the club business and because he wanted to watch the owner of the club, Mr. P., because he felt that this man had something to do with the dead of his parents. There was an investigation, but Mr. P was never convicted of any wrong doing. Derrick felt that Mr. P was dirty and he felt that if he worked for Mr. P that he could uncover something that would either ruin or send Mr. P to jail. Derrick has a fiancé. Her name is Carla. Derrick is marrying her mostly out of loyalty to his parents. Carla’s parents and Derrick’s parents had been best friends for years. Their parents always wanted there Derrick and Carla to marry. So out of respect for his parents, he kept in touch with Carla through the years and finally asked her to marry him about a year ago.

Character Bio Mr. P (Bad Guy)

Mr. P is a handsome man but more importantly a smooth operator. He is an only son and his parents had him while in there 40’s. He had an average up bringing but for some reason, he liked the side of crime mixed into his world. He is a smart business owner who could run a legitimate business but can not help himself to the easy money by dealing with the wrong company, local mob. On the side for the mob, he washes money for them. He has been in the club business all of his life. He owned his first club many years before he teamed up with Derrick’s dad to start Club 10,000. Club 10,000 was around for 15 years before the doors closed. There was talk around town that he had something to do with Derrick’s parents deaths but nothing was ever proved. He has a wife and three daughters. His daughters are all in college. He makes a bunch of money off of his Club, The Sky Bar. Because of his ties to the underworld, he has no problem going from hot to charming or the other way around. His goal is to make as much money as he can and pay out as little as possible to his workers.

Character Bio MONICA Castro (Supporting Lead)

Monica was born in San Antonio, TX. She is 24 years old. She moved to Houston or McAllen when was three. She lived in the same neighborhood as Kelly. It was in elementary where Monica and Kelly became friends. They have been friends, best friends, ever since. Her mom is alive and lives in the same city that Monica does. Her dad died from a massive heart attach when she was very young. She has two older sisters and one brother. Monica is the baby of the bunch. Monica is sassy with fire in her veins. She carefree and irresponsible, but she is very fun. She graduated from the high school for musicians and artists. She joined Kelly’s band after high school and has been playing ever since. She did not attend college and has no aspiration to do so at this time. She has had no luck with men. She is currently dating a possessive, controlling and abusive man named Robert. She is being abused by him, but she is hiding it from everyone. She is unhappy with her relationship with Robert, but she has not found the courage to break free. She thinks that she needs a man in her life. Her career ambition is not defined at all. She is happy with being in the band. She has not thought past next week let alone next year. She is truly a check to check kind of babe.  

Character Bio MICHELLE Aguilar

Michelle is a 19 or 20 year old pampered female. She is from Houston or McAllen. She is a very talented base player. She is an only child. She joined the band before she had graduate from high school. She is from a rich well to do family. She does not need to work. She still receives an allowance from her parents that is more than her monthly paychecks from playing in the band. She is naïve in many ways, but she is learning more about life from the members of the band every day. She takes a class at the local college mostly because her mom wants her to. She actually has no interest in school what so ever even though she is a bright young lady. She lives in an upscale condo that her parents own. She drives a nice car. She has a boyfriend, Charles, who is completely cheating on her. She had no clue until the girls in the band started making comments about him. He has gotten worse with his actions and he even flirts with other woman while she is onstage working. She is at the point where she is starting to see the light and does not trust him like she used to. She is in love with him and wants him to act right, but he is a user of woman.

Character Bio NATALIE James (Nat)

Nat is the oldest member of the band. She is in her late twenties or early thirties. She has been playing the piano and guitar for over twenty years. She is smooth as silk. She is classy but not to much. She grew up in a very nice family as well, not rich, just nice. She has a brother and her folks live in Houston or McAllen. She is a lady. She learned to play as a kid because her mom was a musician and played in band in her earlier days. She is dating the owner of a comedy club in the city. His name is Marcus. They have a nice relationship. Nat has her life together and is always trying to get the other girls to think about the future. She owners a home, a couple of cars, and has a retirement plan. She also teaches music as her second job. She toured with bands in the past and she has seen much of the world. Her only problem is that she has trouble playing for lots of people. This is a problem because she plays in front of big crowds almost every night. She smokes a ½ cigarette of weed to calm her down before the first act. After the first appearance on stage, she is fine the rest of the night.

 Character Bio TONI Mendez

Toni is beautiful. She is a 24 year old who joined the band with a goal of having her own band one day. She is street smart and is probably the best musician in the bunch. She is from a family where she was able to do what she wanted and when she wanted all of the time. No one in her family paid much attention to her. The whole thing about friendship in the band is not as attractive to her because of her past relationships. She is jealous or envious of Kelly because Kelly is in the position that she would like to be in one day. The problem is that she does not have the know how to run a band.

Robin is a year younger than Kelly. She is 23. She is a much better singer than she is a musician, but she does play a nice something. She is the baby of the family. She went to the same schools as Kelly and is in college as well. Kelly and Robin as almost two of a kind and they get along well. The big difference between the two is that Robin still puts her heart out to be stepped on. She is in a relationship with a married man, the club owner, Mr. P.

Charles is a pretty boy. He is a user of women. He does not have a job and gets money from his female friends. He is Michelle’s boyfriend. He is a smooth charmer and he has a way with words.

Robert is an average guy. He is a heavy drinker. He is a cop. He is afraid of Monica’s beauty. He has always been abusive to his girlfriends. He grew up in an abusive home. His father would fight his mother.

Carla is Derrick’s bride to be. She is a bitch. She has it all and she is not afraid to let you know that. She wants everything her way. She has a strong personality.
